Colours of the land

Colours of the land

Oh how I love this place I call home! Colours, textures, forms and patterns in nature all influence my textile designs. I love to try to replicate the feel  of a place and create a textile response to the places I visit and connect to.

Exploring the Surface

I love experimenting with techniques that change the surface of my felt work.

Exploration of textures and evolving techniques keep me motivated and engaged in my art- it keeps me connected to my process and keeps my work fresh.

Inspiration is all around me.

Mixed Media Play

Mixed Media Play

There are so many things that can be made from felt, but I do  love to explore design ideas and different mediums, these then influence my felt work. I play with mono-printing, metalwork, painting, collage, papercrafts, digital photography, and fabric dyeing. It keeps me motivated and inspired.

Sheer and Light

I love the texture of fine drapey felt. I live in the tropics – so my work has to be fine to adapt to our climate here. I love the layering of fine silk fabrics and superfine Australian Merino wool, a match made in heaven.

Story Wraps

Many of my pieces have a story. These stories develop from my imagination; from places I have visited, colours and textures I have seen and the feelings I have. When making, this story informs my work. Sometimes the story only becomes clear when the piece is finished and the unconscious symbols appear in my work. Often I work in multiples and do a range of wraps on a theme, such as my COVID Journey wraps.

Stitch and felt

Stitch and felt

Love, love LOVE to stitch on my handmade felt using both hand stitch and machine stitch. I teach at embroidery conferences in Australia and overseas and have been fortunate to spend a lot of time in “Embroidery Land” where I am inspired to learn new stitches and experiment on the surface of my work.
