From 1 to 3 March 2013, Qld Spinners Weavers & Fibre Artists Ltd, the biennial exhibition will again be celebrating excellence in all fibre arts. While the diverse techniques on display are based on tradition, the directions contemporary artists take them in are anything but old fashioned. Spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting, knitting, crochet, braiding, basketry, papermaking and bookmaking – they’re all represented and you’ve never seen anything like them before. In addition to the exhibition, there will be a gallery shop and demonstrations catering to all ages with activities for the younger visitors. 7 pm Friday 1 March 2013 Event will be opened by ABC Weather Reporter, Jenny Woodward. 2.30 pm Saturday 2 March Dr John Hains will be speaking about the making of his Turkish style carpet celebrating his rural property “Tolderodin” (known locally as “Running Creek”) The quick version: He made the Spinning wheel, spun the wool, dyed the wool, designed the carpet, started weaving it …. then his 3 yr old grandson cut the Warp threads …. you’ll have to come to his talk to hear the rest.11-1 Sat & Sun Joan Apthorp will be showing our younger visitors how to spin their own piece of yarn to make a bookmark. It may be wool or it may be something very different! Further details can be found at: qldspinners.org.au or by contacting fibrefest@qldspinners.org.au I will be demonstrating felting at Fibre Fest on Saturday from 12.30-4.30
